How to Polish Petoskey Stones in a Tumbler

Have you ever heard that it’s impossible to tumble Petoskey stones? It’s not! I’ll show you how to tumble them from beginning to end. I’ll use dry corn cob media to get the final polish.

If you don’t have a tumbler and would like to learn to polish Petoskey stones by hand, take a look at this video: https://youtu.be/sjImNrwR9As

Here are the steps I used:
1) Three or four days at a time in a three pound rotary tumbler with 1/2 tablespoon of 80 grit until rocks are free of holes. Use more water than normal.
2) 24 hours in a rotary tumbler with 1/2 tablespoon of 220 silicon carbide grit.
3) Two days in a vibratory tumbler with dry corn cob media and one tablespoon of 500 aluminum oxide grit.
4) Two days in a vibratory tumbler with dry corn cob media and one tablespoon of aluminum oxide polish.

I buy most of my lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don’t make money from your purchases there, but I really think they have the best prices and the best service, so I feel good recommending them. https://rockshed.com

I also have an Amazon storefront. This is where you can find other products you may have seen in my videos. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
